The idea#
Desire staged as desert physics. Light rises beyond “dunes of time”; the beloved is chased as shadow in the sky, scent in dust-strewn memory. “You are the mirage I follow”—thirst that cannot marry its dream, ghost in a desert bloom, song in an endless room. Dark, euphoric, nocturnal vocal trance is almost the correct climate for heat shimmer that feels like love.
Each step a dance through fire; each breath feeds lost desire. The sun forgets, yet the image never sets; silence bends time. Perhaps the cruelty is that the mirage works—it organizes the whole journey—while remaining unpossessable. “A trace of light I never knew” closes on unfinished knowledge: the chase teaches longing more accurately than it teaches the person longed for.
